As I was on my daily drive today down Indian River Blvd., I came across Old Fort Park. It was a new discovery since I had not known it even existed. I found out a little history about this particular park and have included it below:
Old Fort Pierce Park is the site of an Ais Indian burial mound that predates Columbus by several hundred years. The location later became an Army fort used during the Second Seminole War (1838-1842). During the Seminole War, it was commanded by Lt. Col. Benjamin Pierce, brother to President Franklin Pierce. It is also believed that it is the location of a Spanish settlement, mission and military outpost dating back to 1567.
Another piece of history that I have not only been grateful to find, but also learn about this piece of nature that has been lost from site, but has contained it’s natural beauty. Not to mention that the light inside this area is amazing!
